Over the coming weeks, a new international sustainability and circularity framework for the fashion, apparel and textile industry will be released. The framework, entitled “The Circular Fashion Framework (CFF)”, is a comprehensive circularity and sustainability framework that builds on the framework of circular economy (as defined by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation) as well on various existing sustainability frameworks developed by different international organizations. With these as inspiration, Green Strategy has created a unique circularity framework specifically designed for the fashion, apparel and textile industry.
The framework is developed to support companies in identifying, integrating and implementing circular strategies and sustainability measures into their overall business from strategic to operational level. Specifically, the framework provides guidance for fashion, apparel and textile companies on how to identify, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and communicate their sustainability and circularity work more systematically and effectively, for enhanced transparency and long-term business success.
In essence, the framework centers on: i) the definition of circular fashion, ii) the key principles of circular fashion, and iii) the main categories of circular fashion products and services (all developed by Green Strategy in 2015 and 2016). Based on these three central parts, the framework also provides companies with three additional elements:
- A comprehensive set of possible overarching and detailed goals in the area of circularity/sustainability;
- A set of key measures to enhance a business’ circularity and sustainability performance; and
- An overall step-by-step approach to implement the framework at strategic and operational level.
In all, the Framework provides fashion, apparel and textile companies with the essential guide on how to integrate and implement key principles of circular fashion, circular economy and sustainability into their overall business strategy and daily operations.
