I am delighted to share with you that I will be speaking at the Giving Women Annual Conference 2018 on its overall theme ‘The Fashion Industry – Women’s Friend or Foe?‘ on October 11th in Geneva, Switzerland. This event has attracted an exceptional group of speakers, with the aim to drive broader support and traction for the fashion revolution. Some of the other 16 speakers are: Orsola de Castro (Founder and Creative Director of Fashion Revolution), Alexander Kohnnstamm (Executive Director of Fairwear Foundation), Leslie Johnston (Executive Director of C&A Foundation), Musimbi Kanyoro (President and CEO, Global Fund for Women), Aruna Kashyap (Senior Counsel, Women’s Rights Division, Human Rights Watch), Caroline Chalmer (Chief Operating Officer of Global Fashion Agenda), and still more.
Moreover, I am honored to have been given the opportunity to hold the Opening address and to speak on the following topics:
- How key concepts within the global fashion industry have evolved over time;
- How to create a common integrated vision for the fashion industry; and
- Four blueprints to adopting a more sustainable relationship to fashion as individuals.
In addition, I will participate in the first panel debate together with Alexander Kohnnstamm (Executive Director of Fairwear Foundation) and Musimbi Kanyoro (President and CEO, Global Fund for Women). My core messages here will center around the three concepts “circular fashion”, “compassionate fashion” and “on-demand fashion”, with particular reference to the roles and opportunities of women in developing countries. Moderator for all the panels will be Olga Miller (Innovation Architect).
In short, Giving Women is a “network of women involved in philanthropy who together pool their time, knowledge, professional experience, financial resources and ideas in order to be more informed and effective givers. Through identified projects, we form a bridge between women in need of support and women in a position to support them. We are convinced that every woman and girl in the world has the right to health, safety, and equality. To realise this vision, Giving Women’s mission is to build and enable a community of engaged and informed women philanthropists to support organisations, whose missions are to empower women and girls.” And, quoting the founder of the network, Atalanti Moquette: “I hope that Giving Women can inspire others to embark on their philanthropic journey to make this world a better place for all.” (Source: Giving Women’s website)
